I have read through all the appends on this topic and wanted to be
sure that all newsgroup participants hear this from the IBM VisualAge
Smalltalk development team itself. IBM continues to be committed to VA
Smalltalk and we are working on an exciting Version 5 product that
will be available very soon. Although I cannot discuss the content at
this time, be assured that it will clearly show our continued
investment and strengthens our ties to the 'J' and 'e' words so our
marketing and sales team can "buy" into our vision.

I would also like to reiterate all the facts that Eric has shared in
his appends. He is right on. We will not stop investing in VA
Smalltalk for a simple reason - it is a good business. We have a
contingent of great customers (and many advocates like those on this
newsgroup) that IBM views as critical to our future and we will NOT
let them down. Can I stop every marketing person from speaking out of
turn? - NO. I need all of your help to stop this FUD at the source.

Again, we appreciate your continued support and interest in VA Smalltalk!
 Thanks,

 Dibbe Edwards
 IBM VisualAge Smalltalk Product Manager
